An Appreciation of a spellbinding saga of Newfoundland March 15, 2000 Hugh W. Small (USA) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I read a very special book today about the love shared between a girl and her Newfoundland Dog. The part he played in a dramatic rescue of passengers between ship and shore during a terrible storm. The stories, which were skilfully blended into the plot, shows the Author to be completely familiar with Newfoundland folklore. This is a Saga which will delight young and old alike. This book is well worth a read.

STAR IN THE STORM has all the qualities needed to become a classic--beautiful, evocative writing, a gripping plot that will keep young readers fascinated until the end, interesting background and locale which will be new to most readers, and fully-formed, multi-faceted characters. Even though the action takes place long ago, modern youngsters will identify with the protagonist and the moral dilemmas she faces. Most of all, everyone will love Sirius--a dog for all seasons!
